Maine's
First Inn is Old Orchard Beach's Finest Luxury Bed & Breakfast
Would you like to
stay in an Inn originally built in the 1730’s, before the birth of our
country? Want to stay in the first inn in Maine?
The Old Orchard
Beach Inn is an historic restoration of the original Ye Olde Staples
Inn. Reopened in July 2000, after receiving a total renovation, the
Inn has been restored with authentic pinewood floors, antique furnishings
and many period details.
What are not
authentic are some of the modern amenities. Every room now has a private
bath, central air with our modern HVAC system, an unobtrusive color cable
television, phones and clock radios.
An extensive
Continental Breakfast is served each morning. Guests enjoy a short 3 minute
walk to the famous Old Orchard Beach Pier in the center of the 7-mile beach.
The
mansion was first opened to travelers as the Staples Inn in the 1830’s
when there were only 3 other buildings in Old Orchard Beach. “The vast
stretch of beach could be seen from the windows of the old Staples
cottage as far as the eye could reach.” The Innkeeper and his wife were
said to be “inherently adapted to the hotel business.” Their courtesy
made their house popular; guest who once came returned annually, as
regularly as “the swallows homeward fly.”
The Inn was accepted
to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
